Narrative Therapy in Action - A 2 Day Workshop of the Therory & Practice of Narrative Therapy |
|
Course Outline |
“Narrative Therapy in Action” (NTIA) is a 2-day workshop which aims to investigate the theory and practice of Narrative therapy at an intermediate level. The workshop is designed for those who have attended Evolve Counselling’s’ “A Journey into Narrative Therapy“, or for Counsellors who have a basic level of competency in Narrative therapy. NTIA is CAPA approved P.D (12Hrs)
|
Course Content |
NTIA will cover:
• Externalising (i.e.: separating people from problems)
• Deconstructing dominant discourse (i.e.: questioning ‘taken-for-granted truths’)
• Responding to stories of loss, trauma and failure
• Re-Membering practices (i.e.: re-engaging with significant people in clients’ lives)
• Absent but implicit (i.e.: double-listening to the meaning in stories)
You will be given the opportunity to engage with Narrative ideas by applying them to real life situations; be they your own or those of clients. There will be a theoretical component but, as the name suggests, the primary focus will be on the application of a Narrative approach in the counselling room.
NTIA will help you to:
• Approach “problem saturated” stories in helpful ways
• Uncover hidden societal constructs that may be keeping people “stuck”
• Respond to stories of loss, failure & trauma with a clear sense of direction
• Thicken connections to figures from people’s history, be they living or passed
• Draw out important parts of stories that have been left unspoken
• Make visible people’s values & preferred ways of being in the world
Throughout the entire workshop you will be invited to participate in conversations and to facilitate conversations using the ideas being explored. |
